Abstract - A unit cell based micromechanical approach is used for investigating fiber arrangement effects on fiber and matrix damage in a continuously reinforced unidirectional metal matrix composite subjected to mechanical loading. An incremental damage indicator is employed to study the initiation of ductile failure in the matrix, and the maximum first principal stresses are used to assess brittle failure of the matrix.
